A century ago, Louis Blériot took off from Sangatte, in the Pas-de-Calais, to land in Dover, in Kent. This engineer was born near Cambrai, he became the first aviator to fly across the Channel.

In 2009, the General Council of the Pas-de-Calais, in association with the Kent County Council (KCC) wants to celebrate this historical event but also reinforce the ties and the exchanges between our two close territories.
